Asked by HeavenlyMommy {656} http://www.heavenlymommy.com 3/12/2010 10:00:31 PM My son is 18 months old and loves to eat ice. He choked when he tried ice for the first time, but now he does great. Do you think this is a no-no or should I let him keep eating it? |

For some reason it seems like kids crave things they need. They may eat ketchup right out the bottle because they need one of the vitamins it contains. I suggest you let him eat the ice. As long as it is small pieces that he wont choke on like crushed ice. If it starts to get in the way of him drinking enuff through out the day give him ice in his cup and tell him he may eat the ice when done with the drink. |

As an adult, I began chewing ice like crazy - I asked my doctor and it was that I did not have enough iron. Once I got more iron in my system, I never chewed ice again. Could it be the same for kids? |

My daughter did the same thing at 15 months wanting to suck on ice and even got her big brother who was 28 months at the time into the habit now at ages 2 years and 3 years they still love ice, we thought it was their iron levels but they actually have high iron levels not low. I just view it as a healthy alternative to popsicles once in a while |
