One solution to this common dilemma is a simple invention called a crib. It is placed by an orthodontist on the child's upper set of teeth. It usually stops the thumb sucking on the very first day after use. |

Just a tad bit more info here - I had a friend whose little girl was sucking her thumb all the way until age five and the thing that worked for them was a special nail polish they used that left a nasty bitter aftertaste in the child’s mouth to where she would stop sucking her thumb. I think that they were able to get this nail polish straight from the internet. If not then it was prescribed from their pediatrician. I was thinking that maybe if a parent couldn’t afford such a device at this time (I know I couldn’t) then this would be a great cheaper alternative product. Aslo do you happen to know about the effect inside of the mouth, how the baby teeth as well as adult teeth would react to it and last but not least the cost of such an item being placed in the child’s mouth. I’m just curious because this I am really interested into his device you are talking about. Any other place that you know of that I could go to and read up on it? Many many thanks in advance! ~ Candy. - MomOfTwo 4/12/2010 8:34:18 PM | Flag |
