I wasn't allowed to date until I was 16. (i'm only almost 24 now) That didn't mean I didn't have 'boyfriends' before 16, but I wasn't allowed to go out on a date or have a boy call our house until then. My daughter who is 4 will probably be allowed to date at 15. I'm kind of old-fashioned, but not like my parents were. If a boy wants to call the house for her, I won't ground her like I was! But no dates until 15. I'd make sure the date was something like the movies where I would pick them up after, just so I know who the boy is and where they are! |

I think 16 is a good age for dating without supervision. Any age before that I would want to supervise my child's dating activities. I choose 16 because it's a turning point for most children, a time when they are being trusted to be responsible (driving) and taking that first step into adulthood. Dating is another way to prove that they are capable of handling the responsibility of becoming adults. |
