4/5/2010 10:23:50 AM My younger sister recently took a home pregnancy test and got a positive result. She's very low on money and can't afford to go to the doctor right now for a confirmation of the test results. Do you think the stick tests are reliable enough to know she's pregnant? |

Forgive a man for responding to this question, but if you can afford it, pay for your sister to see a doctor. While these home test kits are relatively reliable, they are reacting to chemicals in the urine, and can be influence by whatever she might have had to eat or drink, or some other condition. Trusting the stick results and waiting around for the other signs of pregnancy could cause her unnecessary stress and emotional pain. I try to avoid doctors and hospitals for the most part, but for something this important, nothing beats getting professional confirmation. |

I agree with the person above. I have 4 children and always first did the home pregnancy test then called the dr. for an appt. It was accurate depending on which one you used, but it is always safer letting a dr. in on what your sister is going through. they can help her with other ways of getting help financially. She's not the first person to not have a lot of money and become pregnant. They have many programs and help for her. |

Thank you for both of your comments. I've suggested to her that she go to the church's free clinic. They are open once a week to see people so I'm going to take her down there next week. Wish us luck. - georgiagin 4/6/2010 4:52:16 PM | FlagI'm so happy for you that you're helping your sister. The church is the best place to go. How old is she? How did everything go? - jacquie 4/12/2010 7:34:31 PM | Flag |

| Kristy Hamilton planned parenthood. it is free for people (who meet income requirements). she really should go as soon as possible that way she can decide what she needs or wants to do. i hope that things go okay for her and your family! Sunday, February 26, 2012 | ||

| Tiffani Hull Most of them are over 99% accurate, so... I think they are pretty darn on point! She should definitely go see a Dr to get some prenatal care started, either through PP, or the state.. Good luck! Sunday, February 26, 2012 | ||
| Kim Smith You can have false negatives, not false positives. Somestimes there is not enough hormone for the test to read. If it reads the hormone, then yes you are pregnant. She needs to see a dr. Sunday, February 26, 2012 | ||
