Cooking with toddlers underfoot

One of the hardest parts of my day is late afternoon.  The kids are cranky, it's time to fix supper for my husband, and every time I start on something in the kitchen a fight ensues!  How do stay at home moms manage mealtimes when you're interrupted every two minutes by your children?

When I was a kid, my mom worked, then had to come home to fix supper.  I was the oldest, but had three younger siblings.  The way she handled it was to give everyone something to do while she prepared supper.  As the oldest, I superised the younger ones.  By the time she got supper done, we were usually half done with our tasks, and were ready for supper.

That is one time that I will pop a movie into the DVD player and while they watch it, I can cook semi peacefully.

I would DVR Sesame Street and put it on for the hour while I cooked dinner and cleaned up around the house. It worked well for us and I think the triplets really did learn during that time.

I love my crockpot. I like to either get everything done before the kids wake up or while they are eating breakfast. I have 2 toddlers and an infant and the morning is really the only time I can get stuff done. :)

Maybe hubby could use that time to hang out with his kids. He must interact with them sometime. Why not make it while you are trying to get his dinner?
