Bathtime with toddlers

Help!  My two-year-old won't sit down in the tub to take a bath!  Bathing him is a huge effort because it takes one person to hold him while he is standing to keep him from falling, and another to scrub him down.  My four-year-old used to hate bathtime, but he was never this difficult.  He is frightened of the shower, so that's out.  Any suggestions?

Does he even stand up out of the bath seats? I would think putting him in the bathseat would keep him sitting. Or maybe some cool bath toys to play with in the bath. I'm sure you've already tried that but just a suggestion.

I don't have to do it anymore, but I used to actually get in the tub with my son because he thought it was a swimming pool!  It calmed him down to have me in there with him and we turned it into a pleasant experience.  If you have more than one child and this is causing the problem, as time consuming as it may be, you may want to bathe them seperately.

My son is 3 now, and has been taking showers since he was 1.5 yrs old. He does not like sitting in the tub, so we let him stand. We installed handles at his level and use a large suction cup non slip mat. I love it, because it faster than a bath. While I soap him up, he fills cups and washes his boats and cars. The he rinses the bubbles away. Then its done.

a mat so he won`t fall and perhaps a shower head that will come down so he is not looking at the water coming from so high up. www.onestepahead.com also has a lot of products to help with bath time, including a shower head for children.

Try installing what others have suggested- mats and bars, but try the shower. My little one loves it when my husband gets in the shower with him. He loves to be picked up and let the warm water hit his back. He closes his eyes and looks so relaxed...

Maybe try less water then increase the water little by little? You could also sit him in the tub when it`s empty then start filling it as he`s sitting in it so that he can see that there`s nothing to be afraid of. If you use bubbles he could watch the bubbles grow as the water runs. Maybe watching them will take his mind off of being in the water. If you have or install a hand held shower head would that make showering less frightening for him?
