4/10/2010 7:53:52 PM My husband is naturally a loud talker and I notice that my 13 month old son seems to be much more vocal that other children his age as well. Not just more vocal, but with more volume. My daughter from my first marriage was not loud, but my toddler is. I try to explain this to my husband and he says it is just because that toddler is a toddler! And he doesn't even think that he is loud. Should I try to control my toddlers volume? How? |

Some people have a naturally louder voice than others. If it is inappropriate in some situations, like in public or at nighttime. You may want to tell your son just that, talk to him in the same way you want him to talk. I think it is natural in some instances though in excitement or anger to make our voices louder. Another thing you might want to look into, and I don't want to worry you, check his hearing with your doctor. some children with hearing losses tend to speak louder. |

I agree; usually if you assert that talking very loud in buildings or when other people are talking is inappropriate, kids will understand. I had to do this with one of my nephews (he loves the library, but has a hard time using his inside voice when we go) and I just explained that we had to use manners and be courteous of other people. I think it helps that he gets a small reward too, for using his inside voice- the librarian gives my nephew a sticker to reward his good manners. - llbarton48 4/11/2010 7:08:24 PM | Flag |
