Asked by givans1980 {198} http://whats-your-legacy.blogspot.com 4/11/2010 6:07:21 PM My daughter seems to fall down quite a bit still, and she is almost two. I was extremely clutzy as a kid, and I seem to be okay. Should I be concerned with my daughter's clumsiness or just chalk it up to genetics? |

Child development is an uncertain science, although there are various statistical studies done on which child development charts are based, it is still not a perfect science. As you stated, children may or may not fit within the developmental guidelines established by the American Pediatric Society, but this does not mean that there is a physical or mental issue to the child's well being. Like you said some children are simply clumsy. on the other hand, things like deafness, poor vision, or even orthopedic problems can cause unsure footing, falling and other accidents. The best course of action if you are concerned would be a visit to your pediatrician where you can voice your concerns and tests can be run to rule out illness or vision and hearing problems. |

I wouldn't be very worried about the clumsiness. My now 6 year old daughter was the most clumsy child I had ever seen...she was always falling and getting hurt and such. She is still a tad clumsy but as she grew older gained more control over her actions the clumsiness gradually went away. |

I'm actually glad to hear someone else have the same problem. My daughter was/still is very clumsy too and I was soooo worried. As I observed her, I came to the conclusion that she wasn't and doesn't pay any attention to where she is walking. And I'm now more worried about this issue. - cameciob 4/17/2010 10:38:26 PM | Flag |

I too was clumsy as a child, to the point my mom put me into ballet to try to improve my coordination. Unfortunately, the problem was my vision. It was so horrible that I started out with "coke bottle" glasses in second grade. I had been memorizing which way everyone pointed in school because I knew I couldn't see what they wanted me to. My poor mother thought I had 20/20 vision because I never failed the test. LOL!! Luckily, she caught up with me and got me to an optometrist!!!! |

| Danielle Asquino Unless your child is having difficulty with all motor skills, such as jumping, running, walking, climbing, etc., then don`t worry. Keep an eye on her until she is around 3. If it continues then, maybe a question for the doctor. Sunday, July 31, 2011 | ||
