1/22/2010 8:07:46 AM My wife and I need to seriously think about this now. What do you think Moms? Huggies, Pampers etc or a diaper service? |

![]() | We have always used Pampers for our son. I didn't like the Huggies when he was a newborn. They felt rough compared to the Pampers Swaddlers (Sensitive) which were very soft. I think it's more of a personal preference though. It's worth it to buy a small bag of both and see which ones you like better once the baby wears them. |

What's the name of the night-time diapers? Same brand? - ADMINTODD 1/22/2010 8:40:53 PM | FlagWe use Pampers Overnites in a size 4 (that's the smallest size they sell them), which is one size bigger than he wears during the day (size 3). We haven't had one leak since we switched to Pampers Overnites. - HeavenlyMommy 1/23/2010 9:53:47 AM | Flag |

As a new mom back in the 60's (omg-eons ago) all we had were cloth diapers. The more fortunate of us had a diaper service....which was wonderful...for the first few months. Economic reasons forced us back to washing diapers ourselves. Today it's a wash (no pun intended) whether its better for the environment to fill the landfills with used diapers...or use all that water for washing. Personal opinion here....disposable. And the little one won't be in them forever, just a couple years or so. |

Cloth diapers are not as bad as most parents think. Cloth diapers have come a long way since the pre-folded sheets and clothes pins. Cloth diapers now have snaps, velcro, and they look just like regular disposables. Most parents think that they are gross to clean, but in actuality they are very simple. Depending on the brand of cloth diaper, you can toss the disposable liner in the trash or flush it, or toss the whole diaper in the laundry bin. One thing parents don't think about is how much diapers cost. Pampers/Huggies can cost you about $2000 USD or more over the 2-3 years that your little one needs diapers, where as cloth diapers are less than $600 USD over the same 2-3 years. I used Huggies on my first baby, but I decided to try cloth diapers for my second. Its just as easy as the Huggies, but much cheaper on my wallet and better for the lanfills since we are not adding any more diapers to the pile. This doesn't even begin to talk about all the toxins in the off the shelf disposable diapers. |

I actually made cloth diapers with velcro for our daughter. You can buy them premade from etsy or ebay or amazon. They really are a lot easier to use than the old fashioned fold and pin and just as easy as the disposables. However, the fold and pin will last a lot longer. - givans1980 4/12/2010 3:03:48 AM | FlagI agree. I helped a friend look into cloth diapers for her newborn and was surprised at how much money she could save. When my kids were born there were definitely not as many choices in cloth diapers as there are now. Many of the companies have sample packs that you can order. I think it's something people should at least try before they decide whether the new types of cloth diapers are or are not for them. - ShanaJ 4/13/2010 5:51:39 AM | Flag |

When I was a kid, my mom used cloth diapers and we used to have to wash them out in the toilet which was absolutely disgusting. Of course, this was during the 70s when we barely cared about the environment or even -- seemingly -- safety issues like wearing seat belts. These days, the green-ness of going back to cloth diapers is appealing but the inconvenience is probably a sticking point for most people. For our current toddler (still in diapers) we are using store bought diapers with a Diaper Genie at close hand. |

I like the convenience of disposable diapers especially since the diaper genie keeps the smell to a minimum. I too had my babies in the 70's and our diaper service was always late with pickups and the smell was too much. - Marielavoe 3/24/2010 2:37:56 PM | Flag |

Way back when with my daughter who is now 19 I tried cloth diapers (only because the service was a baby shower gift). That lasted about 3 days until I was at the store buying pampers! They really seemed like more work than they were worth to me. |

i prefer disposable diapers so much more you dont have to worry about them leaking or end up carring a soiled diaper with you because you decided to go with cloth at were out and about. |

Sierra Club says that it's a wash with environmental concerns. That being said, I would do pampers. |

Who is the Sierra Club, if you don't mind me asking? :) I agree, I'm sure they make disposables a lot more environment-friendly these days. - HeavenlyMommy 3/7/2010 5:44:59 PM | FlagThe go-greeners would say use a diaper service or wash them yourself. There are some very nice covers now-a-days for cotton bottomed babies. I read somewhere once that 1/2 the landfill was of disposable diapers. Not to mention that the stuff they put into them that makes them super absorbent can actually dehydrate your baby, sucking the moisture right out of their skin. Sometimes what seems to be convenient pays a high price. - Maremagee 3/11/2010 10:59:29 PM | Flag |

Although store bought can tend to be expensive, I would definitely go with them because they are less work than cloth. |

Traditionally, cloth diapers were used in many households but now with our busy lifes, it's just not easy to keep up with that. I would definately go with huggies and get them from costco. |

To be honest, I could never get by without disposables. But I really give cloth diaper moms credit. |

Cloth diapers have gotten better. If you go with cloth I highly suggest fuzzi bunz. They are neat and much easier to clean. I use disposable because of the convenience. It is my opinion that pampers is the best. |

Unbeknownst to many parents, disposable diapers are actually bleached in chemicals. This is part of the reason that some babies have sensitivity to disposable diapers. Cloth are not only better for the environment, they are better for your baby. |

I think cloth diapers are best. I have not had my baby yet but cloth diapers are better to use money wise. You may spend more on each diaper but in the long run I believe you will save money. |
