Should I do my husband's and teenager's laundry?

I don't mind doing laundry as far as I'm not squeezed between work, dinner and school events. But sometime I wish some other people would help, like the husband or the teenage kid. Especially when hubby complains that he's pants get wrinkled all the time or the kid changes her outfit three times a day. What would you do?

Hello, I have three children, one being a teenager.  There are a lot of things in the day that a mother has to accomplish.  I have 2 part time jobs and sometimes, most of the time do not have time to do things like housework or the laundry.  My suggestion is this: Even though it may be hard to delegate, you need to delegate chores to others so that they can help you. (especially if they are going to complain, if you had more time, maybe you would be able to get the wrinkles out of your husbands pants, but you don't.)  It may be hard at first because you are so used to doing things yourself plus, I know, they get done quicker; however, in the long run, you will not feel so rushed or tired.  You don't have to do everything all the time have them help out!

Might I suggest this? You seem to be getting the bulk of your problem from your teen. No one needs to change their clothes 3 times a day. So what I think you should do is make your teenager wash her own clothes. This way you will be accomplishing two things. 1. Your teen will learn some responsibility. If she wants to wear all of the clothes then she should wash them. After about her 5th load of clothes or waking up not having the outfit that she wants to wear ready because she didn’t wash it then maybe she will think twice before wearing so many clothes in one day. 2. You will be taking a larger portion of the work load off of you so you have time to iron the wrinkles out of your husband’s pants, but make sure that he is doing some kind of chore around the house to equal what you are doing by washing his clothes. Have him vacuum or wash the dishes. Don’t let him think it is alright for you to have a job AND work at home. You’re a mom, not a slave. Good luck!

If your teenager insists on changing clothes three times a day then it's time for him (or her) to grow up and do their own laundry! As for your husband I have a similar problem with mine. I've gotten him an iron and given it to him and told him to iron them. When he rolls his eyes I calmly remind him that I work as well, and help raise a 3 year old, and take care of the house, and bills and the least he can do is help out with the laundry.

Make him do his own. My husband does all the laundry, he wants it clean, he does it.

Teach your teenager how do to laundry. And when she doesn`t have any clean clothes to wear, she will learn that you aren`t her maid. Do the same w/ your husband too. Marriage isn`t suppose to be a give give give situation. It`s a give and take.

I have my child and husband do one load of laundry each a week of their own stuff. If their is anything left over then I do it. It teaches the kid responsibility and teaches the hubby that I don`t have to do it all for it to get done!

My teenaged neice lives with me and she told me when she moved in that she does her own laundry and I won`t have to worry about doing it! husband will do wash sometimes, but at least 70% of the time I am washing baby clothes, large man clothes and my clothes...It is appreciated when he does do it! He did say he would wash his own once...three weeks later the pile of man clothing was too large for me to bear, so I did it anyway!

My older 2 are 11 and 9 and I stopped doing their wash at 9 years old. My daughter wants to wear everything in her closet for about 10 mins everyday then throw it on the floor I will do whatever wash is in a laundry basket outside the laundry room door on Wed if it`s not there and you want it wash do it yourself everyone in my house is capable of washing their own clothes except the baby

My husband washes his and our 4 kids clothes (usually). I fold the kids clothes and they put them away. I wash my own clothes although sometimes my husband will wash mine too! My kids are still too young to wash them themselves yet but when I think they are old enough to, I will be teaching them how to.

It`s nice to have help once in a while but, after all, my husband works especially hard for us and I am a stay at home mom. I am old fachioned and I believe a wife should take care of her husband.

I do my kids laundry ( they are little) i say if your teen is not working, then have them learn to do some of his/her laundry. They will need this ability when they leave for college, or just in life and general. My husband works, and as long as hell put his laundry near or in the washer, and brings baskets upstairs for me. I work too ( i am a sub) so i know how tough it can be. Ask for help though. But teach your older children how to do some laundry.

Give then one day a week when it is their tirn to the laundry each that includes folding a putting away, then they will only want to wash their own clothes. if hubby complains abt his pants tell him he is an adult and he can use the machine just as well as you can. It s not fair for you to be the sole person taking care of the laundry. they can do it too
