4/16/2010 3:21:17 PM My son loves watching movies. We monitor everything he watches but I've noticed lately some of the movies he's picking (many he sees on movie day at daycare, the one morning a week they allow them to watch tv) seem a little old for him. He's only three but last week he picked out Alvin and the Chipmunks (probably not that old for him) and this week he wanted to see Night at the Museum. My husband and I both enjoy Star Trek and we've got a little Trekker in the house with us. While the Chipmunks and Night at the Museum is probably no big deal, should we be letting him watch the Star Trek Movies? Are they a little old for him? I'm just curious what others think. |

It really depends on what you think as their parent, to know what is right for your child. If you think the show/movie is a little to old for them, then ten to one it is. The best person to know if it is to old show/movie is to old for you child, is you. |

I think it's a parental decision. You know what is and what is not appropriate. Of course, I would limit that by saying that anything rated R really is not appropriate for any child under a teen. However, PG and PG-13 is really on a case by case basis. Some PG-13 movies are rather harmless, while others are totally inappropriate. As long as you are screening the movies and are watching them with your child, I think you're on the right track. |

| Janelle Sauceda TV time should obviously be limited for young children. The best way to stimulate their minds is by creative play and interaction with others. That said, being a mom of 3 year old myself, I do not allow him to watch anything(TV, Movies, or other media) that may have a negative influence on him. There are MANY wonderful programs on cable television, but we stick to what we know is age appropriate. Clean, wholesome entertainment that is as much educational as it is fun to watch. | Meko Campbell As long as it isn`t an every day thing, I think Star Trek is no biggie, if nothing else he`ll expand his vocabulary and if you`re lucky it`ll spark his interest in science. I believe kids are a reflection of how you treat them to a certain extent, people either make the mistake of not giving them too much credit or not enough. Saturday, February 05, 2011 | ||
