4/19/2010 5:18:55 PM My son is two, and loves his shoes. He puts them on, and Ican't get him to take them off for anything. He even sleeps in them. His dad can get him to take them off, but he throws a fit every time I try. He doesn't put on socks, and the shoes are really starting to stink. What can I do to get him to take them of? |

Sometimes as parents we have to pick and choose our battles. I understand that his behavior (wearing the shoes all the time) is not really what you desire, but it it harming him in any way? Some kids really latch on to specific objects and it seems he has latched on to his shoes. The stinking is obviously an issue to you; is it feasible to get him a 2nd pair of the same shoes and swap them out so that you can keep them clean? We use Febreeze to freshen up shoes in our house and it works pretty well. You can also try stuffing dryer in them, if you can every get him to take them off! |

The swapping is a good idea. Thanks. - Mom2Boys 4/19/2010 6:31:54 PM | FlagI'd let dad get the shoes off if that's his preference... Also you can put baby powder in the shoes to help control the odor. It will help absorb and freshen. If it makes you feel any better - I had a hard time getting my boys to keep their shoes on. - ExoticDiva77 9/20/2010 5:42:32 AM | Flag |

| Janelle Sauceda This I am sure this was very funny when it first started, but I have a son who is 3 who does similar things, and after people start giving you funny looks in the grocery store cuz there is a funky odor hanging around, you start to worry=] I would try slipping them off while he is sleeping, very gently of course, so as not to wake him. Wash them with about 2 tbsp of chlorine bleach(in a full load so you don`t turn the shoes all splotchy) or with out laundry soap, in the machine, with just baking Monday, December 06, 2010 | ||
| Jessica Brassfield My son is almost 2 and does the same thing only he wants to wear socks too so he doesn`t get stinky..but he will cry and cry for his shoes and if one falls off for any reason..wow he gets soooo mad. But based on my experiances with my older children...this is just a phase and you have to wait for him to grow out of it on his own. What I would try doing is getting different kinds of socks to see if he just doesn`t like the ones you have for him. Maybe getting a bigger pair of shoes so his shoe Tuesday, December 07, 2010 | ||
