Fever-reducer or sweat it out?

I have heard that a fever is the body's way of "cooking" the germs and that rushing to use a fever-reducer can actually hinder the body's natural response.  I tend to let a low-grade fever run its course and will definitely medicate if it continues to creep up.  Wondering what others do, reach for the Tylenol or let nature take its course...

if its 100.5 or over ill give tylenol or if they seem really sluggish and tired Ill give them something. Ive heard the sweat it out thing, but if it makes them feel a little better then thats what I do.
When I was a child I was always let to sweat it out. Even today i remember a party that my family had and I being in bed with high fever. But I give my daughter Tylenol or Motrin too if the fever goes high, over 100. I wished I could let the body fight but I'm panicking.    -    cameciob 4/21/2010 8:58:55 AM | Flag

Reach for the tylenol..if a fever goes too long, it can harm the body and brain.

Nothing but fluids... a fever is the bodies way of helping fight an infection. Only extremely high (106 or over) are what can be damaging.http://www.whale.to/vaccine/white.html

Depends on the age. If a baby, definately tylenol for a fever over 100. Alittle older, it would depend if they feel yucky or not. Myself, I sweat it out unless its over 103.

I give motrin at 102 or higher and especially at night so my child can sleep well.

It depends how my children are acting. I try to let it go if its low-grade.

Anything over 103 can cause seizures. I say reach for the tylenol once its over 100 its not safe to just let it be.
