How do you pamper yourself without feeling guilty?

My husband works really hard and my kids are very busy with extracurricular activities.  Between trying to get healthy meals on the table and getting everyone where they need to be, I often end up grumpy and tired.  I would like to take a night off, but feel so guilty if I am not there for my family when they need me.  What are some inexpensive and not too time-consuming ways that you can pamper yourself?

You sound burnt out and stressed--both feelings that I think most of us mothers and wives have felt at one time in our lives.  I would suggest some daily or weekly pampering at home.  After all, who said pampering has to be expensive or that it has to take place away from the home?  Get those kids in bed and then take time for you!  Soak in a warm bubble bath, ask your husband for a foot or back massage, or light some aromatic candles and cuddle up with a good book.  If you really want to get out of the house, try talking to your husband and arranging a date night where you can both have some fun and be just you instead of Mom and Dad.  I'm sure he would appreciate some time away from the stresses of his life too!
I couldn't have said this better myself. A bubble bath tends to do wonders, espcially once the kids are in bed. I sometimes like to light a few cangles, turn off the main light, and just relax. By the time I get out I feel so refreshed and relaxed and finally feel like 'me' again. Also, getting someone to watch the kdis to have one night out, at least once a month, with your husband will also make you both feel much more refrshed.    -    Dani 4/26/2010 8:08:05 AM | Flag

My spouse and I try to arrange our lives like this:

One night per week, we go on a date;
One day per month, we spend somewhere just the two of us;
One weekend per year, we get away for at least two nights, no kids.

So far after three years of marriage, it's really helped us stay bonded even though we have a toddler.

Sounds like a good idea. Thanks!    -    BBmama11 5/15/2010 10:31:55 AM | Flag

To add to the pedi idea.. Let granny take them and head to a local cosmetology school you can get a pedi, mani and scalp massage at prices half or less than a salons prices...says a cosmetology instructor ;-)
