4/21/2010 8:09:41 PM My children are both great students in school, but their extracurricular activities are lacking. Neither have shown a great interest in anything outside of school, such as sports. In my son's case, his only real hobby is video games, and while I know that they are fun, they aren't exactly a hobby that I'd like to encourage. Does anyone have any advice for increasing my childrens interest in extracurricular activities? |

You do not say if your children are shy. You might try to find something you can do together such as 4H which is not all about animals as some think. There are a lot of leadership training opportunities. When my sister lived with us and was shy I did a taffy pull on fridays for the neighborhood children. There were several teens her age. Also, you might look into a toastmasters club. Sometimes they have classes for the younger people. Hope this helps. |

4H is such fantastic circle to get into . . . the opportunities are endless and it really is like a family. Be it animals or crafts, it's a chance to become devoted and committed to something that they can make all their own. - shewolf 4/24/2010 11:08:09 PM | FlagI like the suggestion of Toastmasters. I used to bring my then 10-year-old to my Toastmasters meetings. She even did some short speeches and entered one in her school talent contest. Good idea on the 4H too. The point of all of it is to have family time! - BBmama11 5/17/2010 2:42:28 PM | Flag |
