4/24/2010 10:14:45 AM I believe the time is different for every child. So how would you decide when is the right time to add the responsibility of a pet? |

With some pets, the level of responsibility is greater than with others. For example, a beta fish might be a perfect pet for a youngster, say, five years and younger. Maybe a hamster or something similar for a child between 5 and 10. Dogs require quite a bit of care, so a preteen or teenager would be a good candidate for those. |

Depends on what kind of pet. |

A pet that doesnt' involve alot of maintance would be good for a younger child. A pet that needs alot of love and attention such as a cat or dog, I would think 12 or older. Also depends on how much the child is willing to pay attention to the new pet. |

| Stephanie Price I would have to say once they show they are responsible like doing homework and some chores on their own without having to be asked. Wednesday, October 20, 2010 | ||

| Jane Bauman depends on how much care the pet requires..Julia has a lizard in her room..changes the water herself and feeds it with help of mom or dad. she`s 4 1/2. Dylan on the other hand likes animals from a distance...can`t be my grandson we r so animal lovers. in my opinion every child should have a pet! Thursday, October 21, 2010 | ||
