4/24/2010 9:10:59 PM My 12-year-old daughter has been begging for a trampoline for the backyard. Apart from the unsightly nature of it, I'm opposed to the idea because the potential danger and injuries she might sustain. Am I being too cautious or should I consider it? |

My daughter too wanted a trampoline at 12. I was concerned as I also had a 3 year old. We chose one that was more expensive and harder to jump on. Thankfully we did not have injuries. My rules were strict and I only allowed one on at a time. My sisters children, teen age boys, had one and they jumped off the house on it until they were caught. So much depends on your children, and your area. The most dangerous thing any does is ride in a car so if you compare that danger to trampolines, you might feel better about a trampoline. My children spent many an enjoyable hour ours. Hope this helps. |

We had a trampoline when I was a kid and my parents placed it right next to a brick wall. Thought nothing of it, too. To this day I'm still shocked that none of us kids or our friends got killed. Anyway, I think the dangers of abusing a trampoline or justified. But if you have rules and oversight, they can be a great way for kids to get exercise as well as have fun. |

My neice is now 12 years old and she recieved a trampoline last year as a gift from her parents. I think just as long as there are strict rules, and always adult supervision until she is more comfortable with it (and your are as well lol). Only one person should be on it at a time, and you could even possibly get the netting to go around it so no one can fall off. I would definatly consider it for her. They can be alot of fun. |

| Kerri Reed -Owens Def get a net to protect her. I’ve jumped with my kids and I have lost my balance and so i’m grateful something was there to keep me safe. Also make sure your Home owners Insurance allows you to have one. We had to switch ours, as ours didn’t. Thursday, October 14, 2010 | ||
| Megan Miller they have nets you can get to put around them Thursday, October 14, 2010 | ||
| Lisa Marie I think they`re too dangerous for everyone! My 6 year old cousin broke her collar bone on one a couple months ago :( Thursday, October 14, 2010 | ||
| Jen Deane I think you are being a bit to cautious, but being my mother myself I understand! Kids can get hurt walking, LOL!! I would have to say if you are that uncomfortable with the idea then wait! Thursday, October 14, 2010 | ||
| Sherri Hare my mother in law asked my permission to buy our boys a trampoline. it is a small one that is enclosed, with padded poles and netting all around, close to the ground like an exercise trampoline, and only one person is allowed at a time.. they could still get hurt, but they have fun, and theres no point in denying them.. but she is 12 and mine are 4 and 2, so i say do what you feel comfortable doing, or start with a small one.. but let them have some fun. | Darcy Cesario i would go for the big one with the enclosure that has the covers on the springs. ihad one when i was 13 (15 yrs ago)!! the worst things that happened was a sprained ankle and one time i jumped off right onto a bee and got stung! my fault...no shoes. its a touchy subject with alot of parents. i havea 5 and 2 yr old and another waiting to come.... i would buy them one now but you also have to teach them what is proper and what is not. and maybe certain (rough & crazy) friends shouldn`t be all Thursday, October 14, 2010 | ||
| Tamara Mocny Kids fall and get hurt all the time, it`s just a part of raising kids, If it`s not the trampoline it`s something eles. We as parents can take all the procautions we want and they will still somehow get hurt. Let the kids have some fun! Thursday, October 14, 2010 | ||
