4/26/2010 9:20:49 AM I was always under the impression that babies are not supposed to start solids until they are 6 months old. My ped. told me that we are going to start our son on solids at 4 months. Did anyone ever hear of this? |

You might want to talk to a nutritionist. Also, you might ask your doctor why he or she is thinking this. I know my doctor was talking about supplementing my baby because I was doing too much and the baby was not getting enough. The nutritionist put me on bed rest and told me to eat avocados, and fresh orange juice made at home and pecans together to make my milk richer. After that the baby gained an ounce a day and did not need the supplement. This did not take more than a couple of weeks of rest and then I just slowed down instead of trying to do everything, everyone and myself could think of doing. The idea that you can do everything you want and others want you to is unreasonable. |

If you are concerned, you can always ask your doctor. I started giving my daughter rice cereal at four months. And at first, it was a very small amount. My doctor told me it was to help in weight gain. The vegetables start around 6 months. Don't be afraid to ask your doctor, though! |

| Cheryle Martinez 9 months... I ecologically breast feed so do not want them eating so soon :) Glad to keep my cycle away! Friday, October 01, 2010 | ||
| Jen Eastman My understanding from the ped is that it has nothing to do with the child; but studies are showing that starting any solids before 6 months can cause increased risk for food allergies and digestive issues later on. Friday, October 01, 2010 | ||
| Kim Smith I also breastfeed and my children have all been happy with that. My daughter just yesterday really started eating and she just turned 9months. I am not withholding food, but am just fine with not having to start that cycle. All three of my babies have started around 9months. I also don`t buy baby food. I make it. | Karen Wachenheim Yes my baby (who was a preemie) started at 3 months!!! :):) Friday, October 01, 2010 | ||
| Amanda Coursey i think the AAP recommends 6 months - i had to start at 5 because my preemie wasn`t gaining weight (0 percentile), but i would have waited. i think the early introduction of foods can increase the risk of health problems later in life -- most notable obesity and diabetes. | Martina Carlotta don`t rush it and listen to your baby, not your doc... Friday, October 01, 2010 | ||
| Sonya Dawson Between 6.5 and 7 months. We started with oatmeal, then around 7.5 months, stage 1 veggies, then fruits. He`s almost 9 months and we are still on stage 2, but only veggies and fruits. He has no interest in stage 2 meats Friday, October 01, 2010 | ||
| Tina Crenshaw I starting feeding my son at 3 weeks because he was starving with just bottles... He is now 3 months and eats all kinds of baby food and cereal.. i have had no problems with him and he has normal bowel movements.. Friday, October 01, 2010 | ||
| Sherri Hare thanks tina, i was going to say that.. my kids are healthy, and no where near obese because they eat healthy snacks, not junk and we are very active.. there are many other risks for obesity in children, and i say listen to your doctor, or discuss options..
