5/6/2010 9:28:06 PM My daughter is four and attends dance class. For their recitals, the teacher would like them to wear blush, lipstick, and eyeshadow. I am unsure about the eyeshadow. What would you feel comfortable letting your daughter wear? |

Call me old fashioned, but I think putting that kind of makeup on a four-year-old is over the top. Performances by kids in that age group look great when they are in nice costumes; adding adult makeup is garish, and should be avoided. I think you should stick to your guns, and would even object to the lipstick. Kids should be allowed to be kids and not turned into miniature adults. |

It's a good question. It really comes down to what kind of message you want to give your daughter. By putting makeup on such young kids are we telling them that their natural beauty isn't good enough and we have to enhance their looks to make them prettier? Remember that beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Don't get me wrong, playing with makeup is just as fun as coloring or painting. It's fun as a kid, but maybe it should just be that - for fun - not a requirement. |

| Lela Connery-Gatton I just went through this last spring. And I just hated the whole idea of her wearing make up, especially eye shadow. I don`t even wear eye shadow!!! But it does make her POP (stand out) when she`s on stage and you can hardly see it when she`s up there performing. So I say go for it!! Wednesday, September 15, 2010 | ||

| Michele Mormando You do not need to feel pressured to use make up or hair-do`s etc that you do not want to. While it might be the norm for everyone else it is still okay not to use it if you don`t want to. They are made for adults and kids make up isn`t any safer than adult makeup. I would do what you feel like. There`s always next year or the next for make-up. Wednesday, September 15, 2010 | ||
| Archangela Graffius I say go for it. It is what performers do. Explain to her that it is just for the show and why. Wednesday, September 15, 2010 | ||
| Amy Johnson Crowthers for a dance performance, yes. For church, or school, no. Wednesday, September 15, 2010 | ||
| Jenny Fallaw I agree, for dance and special occasions, yes, even for playing dress up at home, but to go out in public and for no reason.. NO! Wednesday, September 15, 2010 | ||
| Venus Rosado nope! my mother advised that makeup would age you faster, i didnt believe it until i had a friend take off hers and she looked down right awful! sorry but it is true Wednesday, September 15, 2010 | ||
| Jamie Bowman Brown My 4 year old is in dance and WONT WEAR MAKE UP. Kids already grow up fast don`t rush them any more!!! Wednesday, September 15, 2010 | ||
| Kimberly Schoewe My daughter was 4 this past spring when she was in a recital. She knew that it was for the recital because it was a special performance. It`s fun to dress up and she loved it!! You don`t need to use dark colors just a little color so they don`t fade in the lights. They feel like real performers up on stage and the make up is like part of the costume. I think it is just fine for the recital. Of course it is your choice and you decide what is right for your family. Wednesday, September 15, 2010 | ||
| Katie Guthrie I am a dance teacher. I think it is fine for this special time. We do a professional show on a big stage with full lighting, so the makeup is so that you can actually SEE your child`s features. I can understand and appreciate the concern, but it is not to make your child look like an adult, but to make your child look her best on stage. Wednesday, September 15, 2010 | ||
