2/5/2010 2:19:28 PM My three year old son stopped taking a bottle well over a year ago. Since, I have given him a small amount of liquid in a sippy cup at bed time. Now, it's turning into three sippy cups a night. I have tried to block out the screaming when I don't give it to him at 2 am. He's not going for it. Now what? |

![]() | If you give it to him, will he go right back to sleep? My son is a lot younger, but he started doing that for awhile with his milk bottle. I would just give it to him and then he was happy and he'd go right back to sleep. Has something changed in his life recently? Maybe he is hungry and going through a growth spurt? It seems like if you gave him something to drink and it filled him up, he wouldn't wake for the rest of the night. Just a thought. |

Yes, he goes right back to sleep. It's a BAD habit. Like the bottle, I think I'm going to have to suck it up and listen to the crying. BOOOOOOOOO! - lori 2/9/2010 12:26:58 PM | Flag |

Just on the off chance he is really thirsty, try increasing his liquid before bed. And, like HeavenlyMommy said, he might be going through a growth spurt. Maybe a small snack with his before-bed sippy? |

I'm with ADMINTODD, maybe I am a bad mommy, but I find that the more I give in, the more headstrong they become. If I give them just one more sippy tonight, tomorrow night it will be one more sippy AND one more cookie. |

Let him scream. He'll get over it. But talk to him about it and explain it all. They understand more than we think a lot of the time. |

Use substitution! Once you are SURE he isn't hungry or thirsty (both signs of juvenile diabetes by the way) -- then you present a new stuffed toy -- when you wake up and you know you aren't really thirsty, but you want to wake me up for your sippy cup, then just pick up Snuggles and give him a good hug! Also, could it be he is wanting the CUP, without the sippy, so to speak? Just put a dry, empty one in there with him. Show him it, it may be he is using it as a snuggly toy and misses it? |
