Asked by HeavenlyMommy {656} http://www.heavenlymommy.com 5/18/2010 8:56:34 PM How much milk do you give your toddler? I try not to give our 20 month old too much, but sometimes he just wants milk instead of food. I don't want to over do it. How much do you think is good at his age? |

![]() | I went to our toddler's doctor today and he said about 16-24 oz. a day. You just don't want the milk to interfere with their appetite. |

I'd say as much as he wants. What's the harm? |

Well, they say it takes away from their regular food so they might not get all the nutrition they need. You don't want them to fill up on milk. - HeavenlyMommy 5/19/2010 9:07:58 PM | Flag |

I've heard no more than 24 oz. a day..not that it's harmful but because it fills them up and they should be relying more on solid foods for nutrition and not so much on the milk. |

If using organic milk and your child has no allergies toward it, then given him/her all they desire, if all they want is milk, then they are needing what milk has to offer. Try and include veggies, just lay some out around where the child plays, and if his/hers little body needs what they offer, I promise the child will eat it. |

| Jennifer Randolph Trying to get my 1 year old to drink milk now instead of formula....but she isnt taking to it very well. Unless of course it is in a sippy cup...then she loves it!!! Should I just be patient while she adjusts? Thursday, August 19, 2010 | ||
| Jessica Moore According to the FDA, it`s 2 cups. I think as parents, we get caught in this bottle - milk correlation, and tend to over do it with the milk. It`s normal for him to want to satisfy his hunger with a drink when for the first year of his life, that was his main source of nourishment. But if he doesn`t break the habit, he`s going to end up missing out on valuable nutrients he should be getting with meals, but is lacking because he`s filling up on milk. My suggestion is stick to the FDAs guidelin Thursday, August 19, 2010 | ||
| Kim Smith I do one in the morning, one at night and one somewhere in the middle. It probably comes out to about two cups since these are liittle toddler size cups and I dont fill them to the top. Sometimes I put Instant Breakfast in it because he is not the best eater. The rest of the day he has water available.Jennifer, the Instant Breakfast might encourage her to drink the milk, but I might not do it every time or it is just one more habit. She doesn`t eat very well, except fruits and veggies, but I`m trying. Shes 16 months old and still wears 9 month clothes, but the doctors say shes perfectly fine and healthy and not to change anything I`m doing. Thursday, August 19, 2010 | ||

| Nandanie Benjamin My son is 2 1/2 and he can`t do without his milk. He was on instant breakfast for one year now and a week ago I stop it. He doesn`t drink as much now without the powder. His doctor said to give him 1% milk. I uses 2% so that is what I am giving him. Thursday, August 19, 2010 | ||

| Kim Smith I tried soy and stopped it because of side-effects (since my baby boy is obviously not in menopause) Then tried almond milk. My children, so far, have healthy thryoid, but I also read this.It is trend in people to replace cow’s milk with soy milk in baby’s bottle. However, the replacement with almond milk is equally dangerous as it is not an adequate source of nutrition for a baby. The baby will suffer from malnutrition and likely develop health complications for life if either breast milk or Thursday, August 19, 2010 | ||
