6/9/2010 10:25:26 AM How do I get my 8 month old to like taking her bath in the grown up bath tub? I have always put her baby bath on the kitchen sink, but she is getting too big to sit up in it (she will hit her head soon on the cupboards) and she is having so much fun getting mommy soaked! So...its time to transition, however she is very scared in the big tub, even though I am putting her baby bath in the big bath. Do you keep trying every night and hope she gets used to it? I dont want her to be tramatized and start to hate taking her baths, as she loves them! Is she just not ready yet? Any thoughts?? |

Hi, I am not sure if you have tried this yet or want too, However a big tube could be frighting to a baby even with the baby one in side it, Try the kitchen sink, place a thick towel where the baby can;t her their head, and in a month or so try the big tub again or get the baby use to an small swimming pool. Hope this helps |

Sometimes I would sing to my son in the bath so he wouldn't be scared. It kept him entertained. Also, I would tell him exactly what I was doing. For example, "Ok, now lets wash your arms. Lift your arms up, up, up." But I would do it in a sing-song voice. If you're worried about moving to the tub, you could lay her baby bath tub on the floor and put towels underneath so she won't get water everywhere while she plays as you bathe her. Or maybe you could try one of the seats that attach to the side of the bath tub so she can sit upright on her own. Maybe that wouldn't be as scary. She is probably just nervous about the new environment. I think if you keep putting her in the regular bath tub she will get used to it. My son didn't have much of a transition because I had his baby bath tub in the regular tub the entire time. One day I just took the tub away. I would hold on to his body from the back of the neck with the hand I wasn't using to wash him. Also, don't put a lot of water in the tub. Just a couple inches at the most. Whatever you do - - don't leave her there for one second. If you forget something, take her out and take her with you. They can follow over so easily and inhale that water. Sorry for such a long answer. I hope you find the solution that works for you and your little one! |

Thanks for the helpful answers. She did MUCH better tonight. I sat on a little stool with her for a few minutes in the tub and just talked to her about her big girl bath tub before I put her in and she did GREAT! What a girl! |

| Angela Laster At first i put the baby bath in the tub and i too sat in the tub it wasn`t the most comfortable of course but this helped. Again when it was time to move from the baby bath all together I wound up taking a bath too until the fear (uncertainty) subsided. Monday, August 09, 2010 | ||

| Chanda Hunter I purchased a fun, inflatable tub that fit inside my tub. My son loved it and conquered his fear. It was a little difficult to store, bua woth it. I saved water and didn`t have to get in with him, if I didn`t have the time. Monday, August 09, 2010 | ||

| Sarah Helbig We have this awesome bath seat that goes into the tub and fastens over the side of the tub so it can`t tip over. It made me feel much more secure. My son was really big for his age so I was nervous about going to the real tub and he loved the seat. Ours is from Safety First and I ordered it online from WalMart (they did not have it at the store but shipped it to the store for free). Good luck! Monday, August 09, 2010 | ||
| M Nicole Morrow I had the same problem with my twins, they were just overwhelmed by the huge stark area. Try making it more friendly for her, sounds silly but use a command hook or two and put something she likes to look at on it. My guys also freaked out when I put them in the tub from the baby tub, then it was as simple as putting a towel under them in the water. It calmed them immediately and then they started splashing and having fun. Tuesday, August 10, 2010 | ||
