My child was potty trained (or so we thought) but now he's been having some accidents, is this normal?

We were breathing easier once our child figured out how to use the toilet, but we actually didn't expect occasional accidents and near misses... so what's the deal?  Is this normal.  Any tips from other parents on re-potty training or getting through a slump?

It's very common for children to have occasional accidents--maybe they're not paying attention or busy with something else--but accidents that continue may be a sign of stress, especially accidents at night.  And different children think differently about using the toilet--one might be shamed into it by a slightly older child, while another might not care and figure it's too much trouble.  Just keep a waterproof mattress pad on every bed the child (or children) gets into, even yours, because you never know. . . .

It`s normal..their bladders are still growing and they are still getting the hang of reading their body`s signals.

first off, when are the last liquids of the night? Is that a factor, alot of times it is. 2-3 hours before bedtime should be the cut off. Also don`t be hard on yourself or your child whenever an accident occurs. My children were potty trained before 3, always a goal in our home and my middle child was way done before 3. When he was 5 and attending kindergarten he had is first 3 accidents in 2 years - because he was afraid to use the school bathroom. Remember what might be trivial to us adul

I guess it varies on each individual child. My 3 year old was potty trained in 2 weeks and never had an accident (knock on wood) it has been almost 1 year. My oldest on the other hand is soo much different. It has been 8 months and he has about 2-4 accidents. It has just been so difficult. I just ready to give up. When is your child having his accidents??? Time of day??????

It is very normal to have accidents. Don`t get upset with them if it happens as your child will prob be upset anyway. Give them comfort and tell them accidents happen and to try and be careful ang go potty as soon as they feel they have to!
