8/5/2010 5:31:41 PM My husband and I are struggling to have our own child. While we are not officially trying, we have been having totally unprotected sex for nearly 2 years now. I keep missing periods or having short periods. I went to the Dr. and found that I may never be able to have kids. They suggested I go back to taking my birth control. But I do not want to reduce my chances even more by taking birth control instead of "trying" to get pregnant. I was wondering if there are any "tips" that I can use to increase my chances of getting pregnant. |

Do you really know why the doctor said that you might never have any kids? There might be so many reasons why you didn't get pregnant in the last 2 years. It could be something really simple. First of all, find a good doctor, one that tests before he talks. A fertilety specialist would be best, or see if you have a Reproductive Medicine center at the local hospital. Those doctors will test if you have a blocked tube or PCOS or so. They will also test your husband, you might not be the one with the problem. If he loves riding a bike, that could be the reason why you are not pregnant by now. If you want to do some homework right away before you see a doctor get a fertilety meter. They are expensive(Clearblue $199), but at least then you know for sure if you are oviolating. But again, you need to see a good doctor. Different doctors like different oviolation tests, you should ask which test you should get when you make an appointment. And start taking your Vitamins, especially folic acid. Being a mother is the greatest blessing anyone can get. Don't ever give up on it, especially because of what one doctor said. Always get a second oppinion. We tried for 4 years before we had our first baby, I had to take mild fertilety medication before I conceived. The second time was a lot easier and faster. But then our daughter was 10 years in the making, but after all this time I woke up pregnant one morning without any help from a doctor. Don't give up. |

| Lacey Heiss did they say why? research online - best tools are right here! Weight can play a factor if that is an obstacle in your life; trying buying over the counter fertility planners - they do work for alot of people, and to help offset the costs, you can buy pregnancy tests at most dollar stores now - I actually prefer them vs EPT and others, JM2C Friday, August 06, 2010 | ||
| Melissa Adams do you use ovulation tests each month to make sure you`re ovulating? I had the same issue of not being able to get pregnant and I found out my tube was blocked. I find the best way to track my ovulation is using a calculator on mymonthlycycle.com. You put in when your period starts and it will calculate the most likely time you will ovulate. Once I have that, I will take an ovulation test two days before, the day before and the day I`m supposed to ovulate. This has been very helpful to me and ac Friday, August 06, 2010 | ||
| Kim Smith Why they told you that you may not be able to makes a HUGE difference in things to try. I had many physical issues. Two surgeries and two miscarriages later (with one ovary) we had a baby boy. We were afraid to use any kind of birth control, so two years and two months later we had a baby girl. It CAN happen. Try to be positive and relaxed. Of course I know first hand that is easier said than done. Friday, August 06, 2010 | ||
| Andrea Wilkinson Someone else with blocked tube issues...nice to meet you. I had never heard of such a thing until it happened to me. I would try the ovul. kits and if you are ovulating every month go to the fertility clinic in Columbia. Awesome dr!! Friday, August 06, 2010 | ||
| Boni Moore I was told the same thing for the same reason so I stopped taking the pill thinking I couldn`t get pregnant....2 years later I got pregnant. Then after my first I got the shot for the 1st year but then stopped birth control...2 years later pregnant again. Both times for me it happened when we were on vacation and I was completely relaxed. | Jennifer Lejman It sounds like you`re ovulating sometimes but not all the time. That`s what happened to me. When I had a missed period, my doctor put me on progesterone for a week which gave me a period and then I did the ovulation tests religiously and then got pregnant a month after that. Not sure if it will work for you but it`s worth a try if you haven`t already... Friday, August 06, 2010 | ||
| Wanda Carcaramo-Sochinski My husband and I tried for 3 years had all the testing and gave up. 3-4 months later we were pregnant!!! Try different times of day and do not stress out about it. Friday, August 06, 2010 | ||
| Tracie Durre I know it`s easier said then done but just try to relax and don`t stress about it. God works in mystrious ways He will provide for you when you are ready. My husband was told that he would never have kids when he was with his first wife. they got divorced and I met him. Now we have 3 beautiful kids and none of them were planned for. it will happen when you least expect it. Friday, August 06, 2010 | ||
| Cheryle Martinez Have you tried taking your temperature and monitoring to see if/when you`re ovulating? http://www.fertilityplus.org/faq/bbt/bbtfaq.htmlExtended use of hormonal birth control can actually mess up your body and make it more difficult to get pregnant (besides being an abortificiant...causing an egg that managed to get fertilized to not attch to the uterus and abort). This may sound silly too, but, a friend was having trouble with cervical mucus being too thick, in addition to on off ovulating, an Friday, August 06, 2010 | ||
