I would suggest just taking it away from him and not giving in.  My daughter is 16 months old, and I stopped giving her bottles at night when she was a year old.  She doesn't get anything to drink an hour before bed and I give her - her pacifer.  That is the only time she gets that, at bedtime.

If your 2 year old is tossing and turning try to find the reason. Could be discomfort, maybe a nap too late, or some other distraction. It might take time to figure it out depending on your childs communication skills but once you find the issue, you can help your little one start getting a full nights rest.

I wouldn't worry about the sippy cup.  My older sons always had a cup of water by their beds at night and I still do, and it's nothing to worry about as long as it's water. Anthing with sugar can cause tooth decay. If he's sleeping with it, it just might be his comfort. Maybe let him have an empty one if it's IN the bed, and have one with water ready on standby if he gets thirsty.

Oh, forgot to mention. Habits are easier to be prevented than broken.Once the habit is there, all you can do is manage it.    -    ExoticDiva77 8/26/2010 2:50:00 AM | Flag

i slowly weened mine, I started by not giving them a cup @ nap time and then after a few weeks I stopped the bedtime cup. Sometimes kids use certain things a security type thing. I found by slowly replacing the cup with a blanket or stuffed animal or even a toy, it went more easily.

Answer: Stop giving it to him! It is that simple. Actually, you should have stopped a long time ago. No worries.....you may have to put up with a cranky one for a while, but better for him or her and thier teeth! They like to be `big` and just find them a really cool cup and they will love it! Good luck! Try something with a built in straw perhaps!Good luck!

I did the same thing, breastfed for 21 months and his four front teeth needed caps! It took a whole weekend and was a nightmare of him crying and waking up, but you have to do it.

just stop. or give them one before bed, then put them down. i give mine his bear instead of a cup and he plays for a bit before falling asleep. might take a few nights, but itll be worth his / her health in the end.

No offense, but the just stop idea doesn`t always work. I`m guessing that it isn`t in this situation or she wouldn`t be asking for help. Some children very easily (or without too much grief) give up things or habits. Others hold on for dear life.Just stop is the first step, but then what? With my most stubborn child we would have a cup of milk one hour before bedtime. Hopefully that will fill his belly some. If you are not giving water during the night try that and try a regular cup. Have you tried giving him calms forte for kids? http://www.hylands.com/products/calms4kids.phpIt is a homeopathic remedy. It helps with sleeplessness and restlessness.Deanna, I have breastfed all 8 of mine, the last 5 for right around 2 years and none of them have ever had any teeth problems (out of all 8 children, my 16 yr old is the only one to ever have had a cavity, period). My 18 month old is an all night nurser still. As tired as I am, I keep telling myself that they are only littl

What r u giving him to drink? If something other than water, try giving him water. That helped with my brother when he was little.

why are some of you guys kids getting crowns? are they falling asleep with the sippy cups in their mouths? I still keep a cup of juice or water by my son`s bed and he is 3 y/o. he wakes up sometimes and drinks it and then puts it back down before falling back to sleep.
