Time Management for Stay At Home Moms

I work from home and I have three kids ages 14, 7 and 3. I also home school my oldest while the youngest is also at home all day and I am trying to work on a college degree! I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed sometimes. Any idea on how I can better manage my time without neglecting my children?

Wow! I commend you for all that you are doing.  I too, also work from home but I just have a 2 year old and I work around his schedule.  Do you wake up extra early to catch-up on things?
I completely agree with this, I work from home as well so when I need to catch up on work I have to give up time doing something else. I don't watch much TV or sleep in, I have to fit in work where ever I can.    -    Almostsupermom 3/15/2010 9:13:03 PM | Flag

you could get a desk calander and designate specific time for each task. i recently started working from home to earn extra mony and have a four year old and an one year old. my day starts at 7am and i try to end it no later than ten. i try to schedule evrything out to where i have time for everything and not neglect anything. i know that it will be hard but in due time you will get use to the routines and will be a peice of cake.
I would designate chores for the older children and try to do homework for your college courses while you have your daughter work on her schoolwork. Of course keeping your schedule will help you budget your time better. A color code system where each family member has a color may be helpful as well.    -    Raeraevnessa 3/1/2010 8:39:50 PM | Flag
I agree that scheduling is the answer. I can relate, I homeschooled all 4 of my children through graduation for the oldest 3. (The youngest is in public school now.) Time management is only possible with a schedule however, the schedule is a tool not a prison guard. Your oldest might benefit from being given some extra responsibilities. Each of us must feel as we are contributing to our family.    -    mrstcrutcher 3/2/2010 5:25:03 PM | Flag

I have got to the point where I use a list and a timer.  I can easily get caught up spending to much time on the internet.  I will wake up in the morning and make the children breakfast.  While they are eating I will spend 15 minutes on the internet.  I will do this through out the day.  Giving myself little 15 minute breaks to have mom time really helps me out.
